Maggie Ayres is a contemporary mixed media artist based in Kirkcudbright, South-West Scotland.
Over the last twenty years as a professional artist, she has explored and developed different techniques, while her work has focused on the inner world of memories, beliefs and emotions.
She mainly works with oils and cold wax medium to produce many-layered, collaged abstract paintings on wooden panels.
She also paints with watercolours, offering another dimension to her practice.

I created a body of work titled, "breath", where I drew together finished paintings against a background of sketches, writings, videos and thoughts which might offer the viewer a fuller experience and understanding of my work.
I suppose I am trying to convey a deeper story rather than one of just turning up at the studio and splashing on the paint…
